We arrived about an hour before the ceremony that day and were greeted by a volunteer. Becca was delighted to see her.
The dogs went to the training room where their handlers could watch through windows while they had crazy happy reunions with their siblings, classmates and puppy raisers/trainers.
The humans milled around and waited for things to get going. It was nice to catch up with Can Do staff and classmates.
Finally, Al Peters, Exectutive Director got things going.
Each pair was introduced with a video and story about their partnership. Then, the handler got a diploma and waited for the dog to be brought up by its puppy raiser. In Becca's case, the director of the prison where she was trained delivered her back to me, in her cap. She received her own "diploma," a nylabone. And we posed for a few photos on stage.
Next, we got a portrait taken and then joined all the graduates on the stage for a class photo. It was a bit chaotic.
After our official business was done, we got to meet Becca's furlough families, all three of which came to see her graduate. We got photos with one. Everyone was happy to see each other and it was fun to hear about some of her funny habits that she's held onto.
We are team 357 and were already on the wall filled with great teams at Can Do's facility.

Congratulations Becca! Are you going to the beach for a week with your friends? Considering grad school? Americorps? Teach for America? Don't forget you have to start paying back those student loans in six months. . .
